The Inspiration: My partner and I grew up and met in Markham ON, so it was very important for us to get married here. The Markham Museum inspired us with its vast 25-acre property and the beauty of all the old heritage buildings. It was also a showcase of old artifacts from Markham’s past, much like the historic nature of our now 11 year relationship (ha-ha). So we thought this was pretty fitting. June felt like a beautiful time of the year to get married, but we were also limited on time because my husband was starting a Residency program early July, so we wanted ample time to get married and honeymoon. The colour scheme was easy…it was simply my most favourite colour in the whole world…purple! And since I couldn’t choose just one shade, I chose multiple.
Moments to Remember: My favourite moment of the day was when my husband got choked up during our vows. He’s normally a very stoic person, so this was very touching. The funny part was, he got choked up during the part where he is suppose to repeat “I promise to be faithful…” and couldn’t get the words out through the tears. My friends in the back of the church couldn’t see this, so I heard them yelling from the back “Mat!! Why aren’t you answering?!?!” We had a good laugh about this.
Alex and Mat's Advice: My only advice would be to just enjoy the planning, and brush off the little things. The day will come and go so fast, and glitches are bound to happen. So just try and take it all in, and enjoy every second. The wedding is only one day, but the marriage will hopefully be a lifetime!
